Project Thessaloniki
Purchasing incubators and reagents

University services from the University of Thessaloniki are circulated throughout several hospitals, including the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA), the General Hospital of Athens Hippocrates and Papagiorgiou Hospital.

Two projects have been initiated to support children with serious illnesses:

The purchasing of incubators

The purchasing of incubators for the two neonatology centres that care for all premature babies across the whole of Thessaloniki (General Hospital of Athens Hippocrates and Papagiorgiou Hospital). The very few incubators that are currently installed in the hospitals are in appalling conditions. Premature birth, which is made worse by poverty and instability, is fatal if there is not adequate health care available, despite the fact that with the current medical provisions that we have available elsewhere, the majority of these babies can be saved.

The purchasing of reagents

The purchasing of reagents for the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki 1st paediatrics department’s laboratory, which is located at the General Hospital of Athens Hippocrates. It is essential that these laboratories run properly so that Greece’s single paediatric kidney and liver transplantation program can exist, as well as assessments and treatment programs for children with cancer and/or immunodefficiencies. The lack of financial support means that the hospital cannot afford to purchase the reagents that are necessary for the laboratory to function properly. The work of this laboratory is crucial in order to save the lives of children with fatal illnesses, which can be treated and cured with today’s medicine.

This project is led by Erasme Coopération in collaboration with doctors from hospitals at the University of Thessaloniki, supported by the rector from the University of Thessaloniki.

To support the campaign, the « » video clip has been realised at the Hôpital Erasme. A USB stick is at your disposal.
